CALL FOR ART SUBMISSIONS TO HELP THE PALESTINIAN REFUGEES OF MONTREAL!
ART AUCTION to take place at
Al-Awda Second International Convention
There are currently over 100 Palestinian refugees in Montreal, Canada, currently under threat of deportation. These stateless refugees have self-organized as the Coalition Against the Deportation of Palestinian Refugees, facing deportation back to the refugee camps of Lebanon from which they came. As Palestinian refugees, they, their families and 800,000 other Palestinians were displaced from their homes and lands in Palestine 56 years ago by Zionist armies engaging in a brutal campaign of "ethnic cleansing." Since that time, they have lived as stateless refugees, in refugee camps in Lebanon, the West Bank, and Gaza, facing severe violations of their human and civil rights, and have been denied their fundamental right to return to their homes and lands in Palestine.
These stateless Palestinian refugees, struggling against discrimination and deportation, need our support! Each refugee's claim requires at least $500 to begin the legal process of achieving refugee status in Canada. The threat against these refugees is dire - a number have been deported, and several further deportations are scheduled to occur in the next days - deportations to the illegal and deadly military occupation which plagues daily life throughout Occupied Palestine and to the violence, poverty and persecution, which defines daily life in the Palestinian refugee camps throughout Lebanon. YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED!
Al-Awda, the Palestine Right to Return Coalition, will hold its Second International Convention at the Brookdale Campus of Hunter College in New York City on April 16-18, 2004. At this convention, an ART AUCTION to raise funds to support these refugees' claims will be held. All proceeds will go directly to the refugees' organization, the Coalition Against the Deportation of Palestinian Refugees. In order for this project to be successful, your art is needed! Many artists in the New York and Montreal areas are committed to making this auction a success, but many more are needed.
Donated art pieces will be on display during the convention, during which a continual silent auction will be held, with live visible updates of the current bidding prices. At the close of the auction, the highest bidders for each piece will receive the piece of art in exchange for their donations of their bid to the Coalition Against the Deportation of Palestinian Refugees.
All forms of art are welcome. Your creativity and solidarity are needed to support Palestinian refugees as they struggle for dignity and justice - from Montreal to Palestine!
